Consultant for the Development of an Accessible Online Cricket Scoring Software
Cricket Association of the Blind, Nepal (CAB Nepal)
- Background
Cricket Association of the Blind, Nepal (CAB Nepal) is committed to promoting inclusive sports and empowering persons with visual impairments through blind cricket. To enhance the efficiency and transparency of scoring and data management in blind and other inclusive cricket tournaments, CAB intends to develop an accessible online cricket scoring software.
Currently, CAB relies on manual scoring systems, which makes it difficult to record, assess, and share real-time match data with audiences and stakeholders. An accessible digital scoring platform will modernize the way blind cricket matches are tracked and analyzed, reduce human error, enhance audience engagement, and allow visually impaired users to independently access match updates and statistics.
CAB seeks to hire a qualified consultant (individual or firm) to design, develop, test, and deliver a fully functional, accessible online scoring software customized for blind cricket.
- Objectives of the Assignment
The primary objective of this assignment is to develop an accessible, user-friendly, and fully functional online cricket scoring software tailored for disability inclusive including blind cricket.
Specific objectives include:
- To design an online scoring system that aligns with the rules and scoring patterns of blind and other disability cricket.
- To ensure full accessibility for visually impaired users using assistive technologies (screen readers, keyboard navigation, etc.).
- To provide real-time scoring, player statistics, and match summaries.
- To enable data storage and retrieval for performance analysis and tournament management.
- To integrate a public-facing platform where audiences can follow live matches and results.
- Scope of Work
The consultant will undertake the following key tasks:
Phase 1: Inception and Design
- Review blind cricket rules and scoring formats used by CAB Nepal.
- Conduct consultations with CAB officials, scorekeepers, and visually impaired players.
- Develop a technical design document including proposed features, workflow, and accessibility framework.
- Prepare a prototype interface for approval.
Phase 2: Development and Testing
- Develop the online scoring software (web-based and mobile responsive preferred).
- Ensure compatibility with screen readers (NVDA, JAWS, TalkBack, etc.).
- Create user roles for scorers, match officials, administrators, and public viewers.
- Integrate functions for match summary, player profiles, and statistical analysis.
- Conduct internal testing with CAB’s technical team.
- Organize a pilot testing with at least 25 blind cricket players, officials, and audience members.
Phase 3: Finalization and Deployment
- Incorporate feedback from pilot testing.
- Conduct final testing during an actual blind cricket competition.
- Deliver final version of the software along with user manual and training for CAB staff.
- Provide post-deployment technical support for a specified period.
- Expected Deliverables
- Inception Report – including methodology, timeline, and prototype design.
- Prototype/Alpha Version – for initial testing and feedback.
- Beta Version – tested by users with visual impairments and CAB technical team.
- Final Online Scoring Software – fully functional, accessible, and deployed on CAB’s chosen platform.
- User Manual and Training Materials.
- Technical Documentation and Source Code.
- Duration and Timeline
The consultancy is expected to be completed within 4 months from the signing of the contract. A detailed work plan with milestones will be finalized during the inception phase.
- Qualifications and Experience
The consultant/firm should have:
- Proven experience in software design and development (preferably in sports or data management systems).
- Demonstrated expertise in accessible and inclusive ICT solutions (e.g., WCAG compliance, screen reader compatibility).
- Experience working with disability-focused organizations or inclusive projects preferred.
- Strong understanding of user experience (UX/UI) principles for accessibility.
- Familiarity with blind cricket rules and scoring system will be an added advantage.
- Reporting and Supervision
The consultant will work under the direct supervision of the Technical Committee of CAB Nepal and coordinate regularly with the Project Manager. Periodic review meetings will be held to assess progress and approve deliverables.
- Payment Schedule
Payment will be made in installments linked to deliverables, as follows:
- 20% upon submission and approval of the Inception Report.
- 30% upon submission and approval of the Beta Version.
- 30% upon successful pilot testing and submission of the Final Version.
- 20% upon completion of training, handover of all materials, and approval by CAB Nepal.
